On Tuesday, July 18 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., the Johnson City Public Library will host a screening of the documentary film Paper Tigers
in the Jones Meeting Room. All are invited to this free program, made possible through a partnership with ETSU Department of Psychology and the Community Crime Prevention Program and the trauma informed care initiative. Paper Tigers
follows a year in the life of an alternative high school in Walla Walla, WA, that has radically changed its approach to disciplining its students, and in the process, has become a promising model for how to break the cycles of poverty, violence, and disease that affect families. The documentary is a testament to what the latest developmental science is showing: that just one caring adult can help break the cycle of adversity in a young person's life.
